With winter now officially over, and I can confirm this because my birthday is, in fact, on the very last day of winter, the 31st of August (thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes) it’s time to get back into action.

Winter has a funny way of slowing everything down.

The mornings are darker. The weather is colder. The couch becomes increasingly persuasive. Training becomes easier to skip, comfort food becomes harder to resist, and routines that once felt automatic suddenly require a little more effort.

That doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

It just means winter happened.

But now spring is here—it’s a good chance to pick up the tools again and get locked in for the rest of 2026.

Not because you need to punish yourself for what happened over winter. Not because you need to panic about getting a “summer body.” And definitely not because you need to overhaul your entire life by Monday morning.

You simply need to start moving forward again.

Has your diet lost its spark? Start by prioritising protein!

One of the simplest ways to get your nutrition back under control is to prioritise protein.

Protein supports recovery, helps maintain and build muscle, and can keep you feeling satisfied for longer. When your meals contain enough protein, you’re far less likely to spend the afternoon hunting through the cupboard for something sweet, salty, or a little bit of both.

You don’t need to make nutrition complicated.

Build each meal around a quality protein source: eggs, chicken, beef, fish, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese or a protein shake when convenience is important. Add some vegetables, quality carbohydrates and a little healthy fat, and you have the foundations of a meal that will actually fuel you.

Don’t begin spring by trying to survive on lettuce leaves and determination.

Eat in a way that supports the person you’re trying to become.

And always remember: if you are bouncing back, a post-workout shake is a great way to reduce soreness and help you feel comfortable getting back into action soon.

Consider Creatine for Your Body and Your Brain

I’ve written about this plenty of times before, but Creatine is normally associated with building strength, improving training performance and supporting recovery because it is excellent for doing all three.

But creatine also supports how our brain produces and uses energy. While it isn’t a magic pill that will instantly transform your concentration, consistent use has been shown to support cognitive performance (brain power), particularly when you’re tired, stressed, or mentally drained.

In other words, it will help you feel better equipped to focus on the task in front of you, and make the juice of bouncing back worth the squeeze.

For most people, taking around three to five grams each day is enough. Products come as a gummy or a powder you add to either your coffee, protein shake, or even some juice, and you don’t need an elaborate loading phase or a complicated supplement routine. Like most worthwhile things, the benefit comes from consistency.

The Most Important Thing to Remember: Getting Back Takes Time

This might be the most important part.

You are probably not going to feel as fit during your first week back as you did when you were training consistently.

That is okay.

Your timing may feel slightly off. The weights might feel heavier than you remember. Your lungs may begin negotiating with you much earlier than expected.

That doesn’t mean you’re starting again from nothing.

It means you’re getting back into action.

Fitness returns through repeated effort, not through one heroic Monday session that leaves you unable to walk properly until Thursday.

Give yourself time. Start where you are, build gradually and keep showing up. You don’t need to win spring in its first week. You need to create enough momentum to carry you through it.

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is progress that lasts.

A Fit Body Is a Healthy Body

At VSC, we believe a fit body is a healthy body, and genuine fitness is about far more than how somebody looks.

It is having the strength to lift something heavy.

The fitness to run, ride, row or play.

The mobility to move freely.

The confidence to attempt something difficult.

And the physical capacity to participate fully in your own life.

That is the kind of fitness we care about.

We aren’t trying to build a room full of people who look exactly the same. We’re building a community of people who believe that becoming fitter makes life better.

And we’re doing it together.

Because training alongside other people changes things. People notice when you are missing. They see you and ask where you are. You’re more willing to push when the person beside you is pushing too. You celebrate each other’s progress, laugh at the suffering and gradually become healthier, not just individually, but as a community.

That is what VSC is about.

Genuine fitness.

Real people.

And a community that makes getting healthy something you actually want to be part of.

It’s Time to Get Locked In

So, if winter has knocked you out of rhythm a little, leave the guilt behind.

Prioritise your protein.

Take your creatine consistently.

Return to training with patience.

Accept that rebuilding your fitness will take time, and then give it that time.

Spring doesn’t need to be a desperate race to change how you look before summer. It can be an opportunity to rebuild your routines, clear your head, reconnect with good people and feel capable again.

Winter is over.

The days are getting longer.

And it’s time to bounce back… with style.

Let’s get locked in.

Get up.

Get after it.

Become Extraordinary.
