You’ve got a problem. You know you want to prioritise fitness but with life being so hectic —work, family, and the million little things that fill your day—finding time for a workout feels impossible. So, how do you make it happen when you’re stretched so thin?

Here’s the truth: You don’t need more time. You need a mindset shift to get your priorities in alignment.

Oliver Burkeman nails it in his book 4000 Weeks when he says we all have limited time on this planet. So, how you spend your time truly matters. There’s no point in being stuck in a cycle of endless busyness, doing or being what we wish we were. You need to make the most of every precious minute.

The cold, hard truth is that you can’t do it all. But you can do what matters most. And if you’re honest with yourself, being the best version of yourself involves doing the things that make you more active, give you more energy, and help you stop being someone else’s lackey and start being your boss.

We often tell ourselves that we’ll hit the gym once the chaos settles. But let’s be honest—the chaos never settles. Sun Tzu wrote in The Art of War that the best ground for the most decisive attack is Death Ground—ground you can’t retreat from. If you’re waiting for the chaos to settle, one day, you’ll realise that you could have avoided having your back against the wall a long time ago. If you’re waiting for the perfect time to start working out, you’ll be waiting forever. The secret isn’t about squeezing more into your day but clarifying what’s truly important.

The inspiration for this article came when I was looking at my bookshelf and realised that Robin Sharma’s The 5 AM Club completely changed how I approached my days. Sharma nails it! His book is about how you must stop reacting to life and start taking charge if you want to get ahead. That means waking up before the world does, before the emails, meetings, and obligations take over, and tackling the things that matter most—like your health—first.

And if mornings aren’t your thing, it’s not about the time of day. It’s about blocking out time every day for what matters. As Alex Hormozi says, “The secret is in the tasks you’re avoiding. Action is the cure to anxiety.” So, what are you avoiding? That workout you know you should be doing? That’s where you need to start.

Imagine how you’ll feel after crushing a workout before most people even roll out of bed. You’ve already won the day before it’s even begun. Or imagine how much lighter your evening feels when you’ve already ticked off your workout. No guilt. No stress. Just the satisfaction of knowing you’re moving closer to your goals.

The reality is simple! What’s standing between you and the life you want isn’t time—it’s prioritisation. When you make fitness a non-negotiable part of your day, you’re not just getting in shape; you’re building the discipline to dominate every area of your life.

So, stop trying to fit your life around a workout. Fit the workout around your life. Whether it’s a class before work, a lunchtime walk, or an evening sweat fest, it’s about consistency, not perfection. Choose a time that works for you and make it your time.

At Vasse Strength and Conditioning, we’re not just about workouts; we’re about helping you create a life aligned with your highest potential. That’s why we offer early morning sessions like 4:45 AM and 5:45 AM and prioritised afternoon slots for those who need it after work. Fitness isn’t just another thing to cram into your day—it’s the foundation that supports everything else. So, stop putting it off. Stop letting life get in the way of living. Take control, prioritise what matters, and watch how everything else falls into place.
