When I first started, I was trying to solve a problem. Over time, my reasons for owning, running and programming for a gym have evolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These days, I don&#8217;t just write programming for athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I write programs for people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the parent who wants to keep up with their kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the tradie who wants to finish work without their back aching every afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the retiree who wants to keep travelling, hiking and living independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the competitive athlete chasing an improved open finish compared to last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or the person who wants to do fitness as a sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But most important of all&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the person who just wants to feel good again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because despite how different those people look on paper, they&#8217;re all chasing the same thing&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confidence, Competence and Capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Goal Isn&#8217;t to Survive Training&#8230; It is to Thrive in life.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s about becoming more capable at the things that matter in life, while also pushing ourselves to the next level. Not to lose it because we didn\u2019t use it, but to use it so we don\u2019t lose it. And if we never had it to begin with, to raise the bar and achieve something we never thought possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People often ask me how I build our programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer is&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn&#8217;t a secret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn&#8217;t a magic exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn&#8217;t a perfect workout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is simply a system that, over time, makes people incredibly capable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I first started coaching, I was guilty of chasing novelty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every day had to be different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every workout had to leave people flat on the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every week, something outrageous was needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was always more to do, because the fastest way to the top is to work while everyone else is sleeping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then I realised something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People don&#8217;t become extraordinary because they do extraordinary things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They become extraordinary because they consistently do the ordinary things exceptionally well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are disciplined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s where real programming begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Full Transparency&#8230; If I Had My Way&#8230;\u00a0I&#8217;d Tell You to Train Every Day.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No, I don&#8217;t mean you should smash yourself seven days a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Far from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I mean is this&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Move every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strength train.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ride a bike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Go for a swim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Play with your kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carry something heavy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The human body was never designed to spend most of its life sitting still.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more consistently we move, the healthier we become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The intensity simply changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some days should feel heavy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some should feel fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some should build muscle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some should challenge your engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some should simply help you recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At VSC, our programming is built with exactly that philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t need seven hard days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need seven active days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because success doesn&#8217;t belong to the person who trains the hardest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It belongs to the person who keeps showing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So Here Is The Real Secret&#8230; We Program in 10-Day Blocks!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing that surprises people is that when i program I don&#8217;t often think in weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think in ten-day rotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Life doesn&#8217;t magically reset every Monday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, rather than forcing every training cycle into seven days, we build around ten days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within those ten sessions is roughly a breakdown of&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>80% are training sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10% are testing sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10% are overreaching or mental toughness sessions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of your time should be spent improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not proving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Testing is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s motivating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It shows progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But testing too often simply tells you what you already know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Training changes you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Testing reveals it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then every now and then&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We deliberately ask more of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A workout that pushes your limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because suffering is the goal&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because difficult things have a funny way of teaching us what we&#8217;re capable of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can&#8217;t sharpen an axe by only looking at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you&#8217;ve got to swing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why You\u2019ll See the Same Movements Again<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While we\u2019re here, there\u2019s one thing we need to clear up about CrossFit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the biggest misconceptions in fitness, especially when it comes to CrossFit as a chosen methodology, is that every workout needs completely new exercises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn\u2019t. And it really shouldn\u2019t be that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The body doesn&#8217;t care if an exercise is exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It cares whether it&#8217;s progressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ll often see similar movements appear throughout a training cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A squat might become a front squat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A pull-up might become strict before becoming kipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A deadlift might become high-rep one day and heavy the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The movement is familiar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The demand is different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the focus is strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it&#8217;s skill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it&#8217;s speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it&#8217;s endurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it&#8217;s simply learning to move better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything connects to one outcome&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Increasing your physical capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So with that in mind, regardless of your fitness level, there are certain physical qualities every human should possess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every 10-day block is built to include the following, making sure you&#8217;re regularly developing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vertical pushing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Horizontal pushing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vertical pulling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Horizontal pulling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Single-leg strength.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Core strength multiple times each week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heavy lifting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aerobic conditioning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Higher-volume conditioning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jumping, landing and athletic movement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because they&#8217;re trendy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because you&#8217;re human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are the movements that make life easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They show up when you&#8217;re&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Picking your child up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Putting luggage in an overhead locker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Getting off the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walking upstairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Climbing a ladder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moving furniture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Playing sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Growing older without losing your independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s fitness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Coaching Priorities Never Change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing I&#8217;ve always loved about the CrossFit methodology is how simple the coaching priorities really are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Range of motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In that order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Move well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then move more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then move heavier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too many people skip straight to the heavy part, or worse, think we move straight to the fast part! We don&#8217;t!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s where injuries happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s where frustration begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;d rather help you build movement quality first, even if it means leaving a little in the tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because strength built on poor movement is temporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strength built on good movement lasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, in a way, we follow a simple principle: first, do no harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CrossFit talks about preparing people for &#8220;the unknown and unknowable.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I love that phrase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because life doesn&#8217;t tell you what&#8217;s coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day you&#8217;re carrying shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next time you&#8217;re carrying your injured child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day, you&#8217;re climbing a mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next time you&#8217;re helping a mate move house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day, you&#8217;re chasing your grandchildren around the backyard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fitness isn&#8217;t about winning workouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s about having enough in the tank when life asks more of you than you expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s why we train across broad time and modal domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Endurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accuracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because you&#8217;ll use all of them every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because eventually&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ll need every one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And Then Final&#8230; From Sick&#8230; To Wellness&#8230; To Fitness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the greatest lessons CrossFit ever taught me wasn&#8217;t how to snatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or squat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or do muscle-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was that health exists on a continuum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First comes sickness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then fitness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this is where a lot of people get it wrong \u2014 they believe they\u2019re fit, when in reality they\u2019re still just existing somewhere between sickness and true health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too often, we celebrate simply not being sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is another level waiting beyond that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feeling energetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recovering quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sleeping well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having confidence in your body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Living without unnecessary limitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s what we&#8217;re trying to build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not six weeks of motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not a quick transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lifetime of capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A place where injury isn\u2019t the norm. Where assistance isn\u2019t the expectation. Where independence, full and complete independence, is something you can look forward to in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Real Goal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the day, our programming isn&#8217;t trying to make you a CrossFit Games athlete. In fact, I hope you don&#8217;t even know what that is!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s trying to give you everything you need to live the life you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To work hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To play hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To chase your kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To carry your grandkids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To still be independent decades from now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The longer you can live independently, move confidently, and enjoy the people around you&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The richer life becomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s why every workout has a purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every cycle has a plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every movement has intent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because extraordinary fitness isn&#8217;t built by accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s built one well-designed day at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if you keep showing up&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you make a true, solid commitment to your present self, you&#8217;re paying what you owe to your future self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One day, you&#8217;ll look back and realise you became capable of things you never thought possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s what we&#8217;ve been building all along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So get up, get after it, and become extraordinary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most people start training because they want something to change.
